Francoise D'Amboise at Penarth Dock
This photo of the Francoise D'Amboise at Penarth Dock appears in the book Cardiff Sail Volume 2 by Roy Thorne, who implies that it is of the vessel being loaded at Penarth during 1910, however, this date is incorrect. The coal tip to the right of the vessel, number 18, was installed in the basin during 1899 and commissioned in 1900; the Francoise D'Amboise was launched in June 1901 at the yard of Ateliers & Chantiers Dubigeon at Nantes. From 1905 onward there would have been two new coal tips, numbers 19 and 20, built by Fielding & Platt at the quayside where she is moored. This photo was, therefore, taken after June 1901 and prior to 1905. [074]
