A longitudinal section of the general arrangement drawing extracted from the Newcastle Archive showing the "Wall", the boiler house and the cross-section through the pontoon floatation chambers. The keel blocks are shown and at each end of the wall is a steam driven capstan for warping the ship i.e. plain English for adjustment of the ship's position on the dock lengthwise. The high-level side shores used to steady the ship, are indicated as squares just below the walkway and the position of the electric lights illuminate us all! This is another section of the General Arrangement drawing which is a blueprint and which I have digitally changed to make it easier to read. [062] |
