A plan drawing of a cross-compound steam engine

A plan drawing of a cross-compound steam engine taken from the Engineer was designed by Clark & Standfield for use in the dock supplied and built in the UK for the Mitsubishi Company of Kobe in Japan. The pipe to transfer steam from the high pressure cylinder to the low pressure cylinder is clear. The rotation of the engine is clockwise when viewed from above which is somewhat fundamental since the centrifugal pumps would not pump water if the rotation was incorrect! [015] [016]
