In the distance is the pontoon and in the estuary, the slipway and gridiron of the former Penarth Shipbuilding and Ship Repairing Company which in April 1910, became the Penarth Pontoon, Slipway and Ship Repairing Company Limited. [072] Julie recalls typing correspondence on a manual typewriter using carbon paper for copies in the offices of Mr. Weeks, the MD of the “Penarth Dock Engineering Company Limited.” The company name on the letterhead was however, the “Penarth Pontoon, Slipway and Ship Repairing Company Limited” and this was sometime in 1964. However, the writer recalls seeing stores requisition forms headed the “Penarth Pontoon and Slipway Company Limited” in 1966. |
