US craft in the Penarth Docks in readiness for the ‘D’ Day Operation on the 6th June 1944. The Landing Ships Tank were mainly shipped from the US to support the allies in the evacuation of troops stranded on continental Europe. LST's were capable of landing upon beaches where troops and tanks could be off-loaded and retrieved later. [002]
