Two 1945 photographs of Penarth Docks showing the dockside cranes which were installed during the war to service general cargo shipping and in support of the US base at the dock. The images are of timber balks being unloaded from the s.s. Madras City onto flatbed bogie bolster wagons. The cranes were manufactured by Cowans Sheldon & Co. Limited of Carlisle which was founded in 1846. [233] |
