• 1944 - An RAF aerial photograph taken on the 8th February 1944 by the 'Camouflage Unit' above Penarth Dock. The dock and tidal harbour is devoid of shipping except at the Penarth Pontoon and Slipway Company end of the dock presumably for ship repair. The dock was closed to shipping 1936 but it is about to become a US base and perhaps this RAF official photograph is to be used as a risk assessment to define the need for defensive measures.
