Volume Four - An Era of Change, Uncertainty, Depression & War - Activity at the dock during World War II . . .

1943-4 - LST's moored up across Penarth Dock.

1943-1944 - LST's moored up across Penarth Dock. Left to right are US-10, US-6, US-13, US-214, US-73, US-59, US-15 and last but not least the US-12. The small blemish directly above the mast of US-73 is in fact a barrage balloon!

'LST-6 was involved in the invasion of Normandy during June 1944. On 17 November 1944, she was mined and sunk in six fathoms of water while en route from Rouen, France, to Portland, England. She was struck from the Navy list on 22 December 1944. LST-6 earned three battle stars for World War II service.' [640]
