1943-1944 - A view of the Penarth Dock Basin taken from the allotments. The swing bridge is in position to permit road traffic to cross the lock. A large vessel is moored on the northern quay of the basin probably awaiting the tide. Out in the cut a dredger is at work whilst above is a barrage balloon in place to provide protection to the approaches to Penarth and Cardiff Docks. Four Quonson huts are placed adjacent to the Engineer's Office which were probably used as stores for our US guests.

The original photograph is held at the archive of the National Museum of Wales. [Museum item number : 1999.169/25] [629] [20180402] The lower image has been colourised.
