1943-1944 - Another photograph showing rows of fire extinguishers lined up on the northern quayside of Penarth Dock. In the airspace above the dock, close by the cab of the crane, is a barrage balloon on sentinel duties. From this series of photographs, it would seem that there were two barrage balloons in use at this date. One above Penarth Dock and another over the entrance to the cut which would have served to protect the approaches to both the docks at Cardiff and Penarth.

The original photograph is held at the archive of the National Museum of Wales. [Museum item number : 1999.169/31] [629] [20180406] The lower image has been colourised.
