The upper image is of the "St. David" and the lower the "St. Patrick" both of which were cross-channel packet ships operated by British Railways. Being a railway family, we were awarded seven free passes per year for family holidays. Normally, these holidays consisted of staying in a camping coach (a converted railway sleeper coach) which was parked up in sidings at places such as Dawlish Warren, Mevagissy or St. Ives etc. I sailed on both ships out of Weymouth and Southampton to St. Peter Port on Guernsey in the Channel Islands in 1959 and 1961. They were regular visitors to the Penath Pontoon and Slipway Company Limited for repair on the pontoon. [001] |
