Penarth Dock - 1954
The Penarth Dock borrowed from Roy Thorne's book the Sail of Cardiff Bay Volume 2. [074] The photograph was taken in May 1954 with the 'mothballed' fleet in the background and the 'Linney' foreground awaiting a new mast from Price Brothers joinery works. The boat was originally built at the Anderson yard which was situated near the Penarth Dock Beach according to Roy. The photo is credited to G. Farquhar.

The Harbour, Penarth
The Harbour, Penarth
I thought I would repeat this postcard view of the Penarth Dock - 'The Harbour, Penarth' it never was! It provides a poignant reference to a fine dock at the end of its days. How it could have all been preserved and used for leisure and business, to benefit the community at large, rather than the majority of it becoming the frothing, fuming, useless piece of barren-land they dare to call Plymouth Park! With regard to the 'marina,' the description of the development within 'A Guide to the Industrial Archaeology of South-East Wales - A Powerhouse of Industry' published in 2003 states 'Now the reduced size dock and basin is a marina surrounded by modern 'anywhere water-front' housing' - how delightfully tactful!
