1970 - Another ariel view of Penarth Dock, the Tidal Harbour and over toward Grangetown gas works, with the route of the former Taff Vale Railway and the Barry Railway Company clearly defined. The photograph is accredited to Terence Soames (Cardiff) Limited and taken on the 29th September 1970.
The dam across the dock shows signs of an area where the pontoon lay just below the surface and where attempts were made to recover the steel scrap failed with disastrous effect upon Mr. Eddie Avoth & Company!

In the enlargement, the works of the Penarth Dock Engineering Company Limited may be seen at the head of the dock where, at that date, Julie and myself were working! The dam across the dock shows signs of an area where the pontoon lay just below the surface and where attempts were made to recover the steel scrap failed with disastrous effect upon Mr. Eddie Avoth & Company! A sand dredger sits on the mud of the river Ely at the oil wharf whilst in the foreground of the photo are the buildings of the Billybanks estate, known to the engineering fraternity below as  'Alcatraz'! - [629] [National Museum of Wales Item Number : 2019.1/611]
