1996 - Map of Penarth Dock

Referring to the 1993–96 OS map [010] the dock is now filled-in on either side of the original dam with household waste and has been capped off. Tipping on this side of the dam commenced in December 1984 and was complete by December 1990 according to the Environment Agency. A superstore is indicated at the site of the engineering works.

The lower image [093] is a birds’ eye view of Penarth Docks site from 1995. The commencement of the Cardiff Bay Barrage is signaled by the crane and barges. Note the capped off area west of the new marina some of which has been seeded at this time. A supermarket and the Oyster-catcher public house was built at the western end and the marina is being “developed”. But there’s already trouble brewing below!
