An aerial view taken on the 10th July 1984 showing the engineering works is still intact. In the foreground is the River Ely with its first meander dammed and filled-in with household waste. The lower image [001] is included for comparison. It was taken in 1949 or 1950 (witness the 'Passat' and 'Pamir' in dock) and has been shown earlier. Whilst it is an aerial view from a slightly different angle, it is easy to understand the extent of "destruction" and the scale of the household waste sites in proximity to the river.
