Station Hotel, Cogan, Penarth
An image from around the same as the 1878 maps which show the Station Hotel looking across Windsor Road and into Pill Street and taken from the high ground, at or on, the railway line. Since this date the hotel has been modified extensively and much of the character of the original building is lost. At the right rear of the image is one of the brick kilns indicated on the 1878 OS maps. [080]

Station Hotel, Cogan, Penarth

The enlarged section showing the brick kiln of the Cogan Pill Brick Works and perhaps, in the foreground is water. Could this be the remnant of the Pill used as a brick pond? [080]

The Butcher's Cardiff Directory of 1880-81 lists the Cogan Pill Brick & Tile Co., as brick and tile makers where John Hobsons is the manager. Alternatively, you could have a drink with landlord, John Morgan, at the Station hotel, Cogan Pill and then walk or stagger along to the Cogan hotel, Cogan Pill and have another pint or two of ale with landlord William Williams!
