An Impression of Penarth Dock in 1865
“An Impression of Penarth Docks in 1865 ” by G. H. Andrews esq.

In the foreground of the enlarged section, is the first 'Kate', a double ended paddle steamer, unloading passengers after crossing from Grange point. In the background are the coal tips of the Ely tidal harbour and left, the main dock is busy. I believe this a presentation of the steamer since there does not appear to be the chains that would be necessary if it were the chain ferry service which also ran at this location. Maybe, Mr. Andrews has exercised some artistic licence here.

This record is an amazingly detailed piece of maritime and industrial heritage, being the painting “An Impression of Penarth Docks in 1865 ” by G. H. Andrews esq. [001] [014] [155]
