Penarth Dock, South Wales - the heritage & legacy . . .
Volume Six - Pre-Victorian to the Present Day - Select Aspects - Crossing the River Ely . .
The picture held by the National Library of Wales under Gathering of the Jewels. It states: "In the top right hand corner of the painting is a detail showing Windsor Road, while the top centre shows St Augustine's Church. This was known locally as top church, because it was on the top of Penarth Head and also because it was the established church in Wales. The other details on this painting include views of Penarth's parks, beaches and baths." It dates from 1884 - 1894. [007][206]
An enlargement of the inset seen in the upper image showing the Penarth - Cardiff Ferry landing passengers at a staging on the Penarth Beach. This probably is one of the double ended paddle steamers "Iona" or the new "Kate" of 1893. [007][206]
