Penarth Dock, South Wales - the heritage & legacy . . .
Volume Six - Pre-Victorian to the Present Day - Select Aspects - Working the Ely Tidal Harbour . . .
The track layout of the TVR leading to the Ely Tidal Harbour circa 1879 showing ten coal tips and a ballast wharf which was later named the Victoria Wharf (at top of image). Two other tip locations were prepared in 1859 but it appears that only one was fully constructed hence, the miscount in the total number of coal tips! [008]
The 1885 O.S. map of the harbour and dock. The ballast wharf is equipped with three cranes for handling ballast and there is an engine house nearby. The entire bank of the river has now been "pitched" i.e. covered with stone. Also by this time there are seamen's reading rooms situated between tip numbers four and five. [010]
