Penarth Dock and Ely Tidal Harbour
The aerial view shown previously (arrow indicates location of barrage balloon) in the description of the dock taken prior to October 1943 showing the extent of the Ely Tidal Harbour at low water. In the harbour there are four wooden coal tips remaining and tips numbers 1 and 3 have coal ships sat in the mud awaiting the next tide. Distant is the Victoria Wharf and its warehouse accommodation. The iron ore wharf is clear as is the extents of the oil terminal owned by the Regent Oil Company at this date. [118]

The O.S. map of 1942 showing the detail of the upper image. The redundant coal tips were removed in the period 1924 to 1937. The two sidings to the iron ore wharf have been removed and the tracks are routed at the right of the wharf directly to the oil terminal. [010]
