F. T. Everard & Sons Limited tanker 'Anteriority' at Esso terminal Ely Tidal Harbour, Penarth Dock
The F. T. Everard & Sons Limited tanker 'Anteriority' built in 1954, of 2,003 tons gross, 277 feet long x 42 feet breath, with a speed of 10 knots. She had aft diesel engines and is shown here unloading her cargo at the river Ely oil terminal in 1960. This was probably the largest of tankers to visit due to limitations of the harbour which was originally designed for much lesser ships. The lower image has been colourised. [176]

The 'Anteriority' leaving the river Ely but curiously looking rather low in the water. Normally, ships arrived loaded with oil from Avonmouth for discharging at the river Ely terminal. So maybe she is in ballast or has another call to make en-route. Does anyone have another explanation please? [176]

The images are from a great series of interesting books published by Tempus Publishing and this one is called ' Bristol Channel Shipping - the Twilight Years' by Chris Collard a photographer and shipping fanatic. The lower image has been colourised.
