25th February 1912 - A hydraulic coal hoist under construction at Penarth Dock. On the northern quay we are able to identify tip numbers 19 and 20 in the distance. The tip under construction is, therefore, number 5, based upon these landmarks. Also, note the double cross bracing is different to the single cross-bracing shown in the construction drawings of the East Ferry Road Engineering Co. Ltd. This tip is, therefore, of the design of Tannett Walker Ltd. of Leeds and was completed in 1912. It had a maximum rated load capacity of 23 tons and the cranes a capacity of 6½ tons and 4 tons respectively.
