1946 - Tribute to Efficient Port Service - Mr. W. J. Bellamy, who before the war was berthing master at Weymouth Quay and has now resumed the duties of that post, acted for most of the war period as assistant dock master at Penarth Dock, and was especially concerned with the military and naval traffic handled there in preparation for the invasion of the continent. The following tribute to Mr. Bellamy's services is quoted from a letter addressed to the Minister of War Transport by Flag Officer-in-Charge, whose headquarters were at Cardiff : -
" The above named has been stationed at Penarth Dock for four and a half years as assistant dock master. It gives me much pleasure to bring to your notice the excellent work carried out by him at Penarth, particularly during the busy period in the six months before D-Day.
" His co-operation both with the Royal Navy and the United States Navy left nothing to be desired and it greatly contributed to the success of the operation. " - GWR Magazine [1348] [1349] Jan 1946.
