Tannett, Walker & Company

Auditor and Depreciation - The debtor stated that this was handed in the same time in the form of a certificate. they had discussed with both trustees and the bank the question of depreciation, and had told them that Mr. Blackburn thought they ought to depreciate 5 per cent. instead of 2½ per cent.
Do you believe, generally speaking , that those balance0sheets showed truthfully the state of things as between you and the bank? - We believed so.
Your opinion that sufficient depreciation was shown has proved to be quite erroneous? - I don't think that.
And Mr. Blackburn's opinion that they were quite insufficiently depreciated has turned out to be quite right? - I don't accept what you say.
So you dispute it? - I disagree with it.
In what way? - I think the buildings are better than they were ten years ago and more suitable for their work, and therefore don't require to be depreciated.

Withdrawal of £52,000 - The Official Receiver put questions to the debtor regarding his withdrawal of £52,000 from the company up to 1911, and, after the debtor had given a number of answers, reserved his further examination to another hearing. He also asked the debtor if, considering that the second debentures were issued in 1904 (?), and there was no security for them, and in the face of heavy losses which they were incurring continuously, he could explain why the company was allowed to continue. Was it by favour of the bank? The debtor said it could not have continued if it had not been for the ban.

Mr. Albert Tannett-Walker agreed with the replies of his brother, and the examination was adjourned to July 28. Yorkshire Evening Post [230] 14th July 1913.
