The Bristol Channel Passenger Service Limited, was born out of the demise of the Barry Railway Company's Red Funnel Fleet which operated in direct competition to Campbell's and on identical routes creaming off lucrative trade and causing Campbell's to lower their fares. Litigation over two years eventually forced the Barry Company to operate within the terms of their 1904 Act and the operation became unprofitable. The prospectus for the new Bristol Channel Passenger Service Limited company, published in May 1910 stated:- 'the Company has been formed for the purposes of acquiring and working Passenger Steamers in the Bristol Channel and elsewhere . . . the Barry Railway Company have had to bear the brunt of the heavy initial expenses incident to the new business . . . it being free to run from any Port in the Channel.'
Edwards & Robertson Limited - Frederick Edwards and George Robertson started excursions from a base at Cardiff in 1883. The fleet was bought out by John Gunn in 1895 and eventually the paddle steamer 'Bonnie Doone' went to the P & A Campbell fleet.
