Penarth from Windsor Gardens
'Penarth from Windsor Gardens' - The great view from the gardens over the pier with a single funnel paddle steamer (possibly the 'Glen Rosa') about to depart for the Pier Head at Cardiff. The headland hides the ships anchored at Penarth Flats otherwise known as the West Mud. This is one of the 'Star Series' of postcards held in the Penarth Dock Collection. Maggie writes in September 1911 to her close friend May: 'I thank you very much for the P6 you sent me it was very pretty . . . please send me another.' Does anyone know what a P6 is? [000] [001]

Another postcard image of 'Windsor Gardens, Penarth' posted in August 1904 complete with a half-penny stamp. It is from 'The Camera Series' published by the Western Mail, Cardiff. The lower image has been colourised. [000] [001]

Windsor Gardens were commenced in 1880 by Robert Windsor. The main entrance is nearby the lodge in Bridgeman Road and for a fee of one penny collected by the garden superintendent you were allowed you to enter the gardens via a turnstile. No riff-raff please!
