Penarth Dock, South Wales - the heritage & legacy . . .

Volume Eight - Pre-Victorian to the present day - more aspects - Moments captured in time

Alexander Park, Penarth
'Alexandra Park, Penarth' - An Edwardian postcard view of the park posted in 1906 to a Miss M. Rees of High Street, Merthyr Tydfil. The text is somewhat perplexing however: 'Never mind the weather as long as the wind blows fair. Never mind the colour if the heart ain't black. Yours truly J.V.' Another fine period view saved for posterity in my Penarth Dock Collection. [001]

View of the Park, Penarth
'View of the Park, Penarth' - Another used postcard posted from Penarth in August 1903 to a Miss in Brixton, London. The back of the card is undivided i.e. it is intended that only the address is written on the rearside. So where are you supposed to write your message? Well, the answer is anywhere else! The sender is clearly frustrated with this nonsense and has drawn a pen line about an inch from one end and hand-written; 'This space for correspondence only' followed by a nonsensical message which I shall not attempt to interpret! Back at the seaside, the rear of the Esplanade Hotel and the tower of the seawater baths may be seen. In the Seven Sea beyond, a three-masted barque is under the tow of a steam tug. The lower image has been colourised. [001]
