Penarth, a view towards the headland.
An animated scene at the beach beyond the pier on a fine day at the turn of the century. The postcard was sent in August 1904 addressed to one Miss Price at the Post Office, Blaira, Monmouthshire. A fine postcard from the Penarth Dock Collection. [001]

Another view of the pier and Penarth Head posted in March 1903. It was stamped 'Bute Docks B.O. Cardiff' on the 13th March of that year. What B.O. stands for is not known except that there was a great deal of body odour abound at the time! The card is addressed to La Rochelle in France and written in handsome handwriting.

The lower enlargements have been colourised and show the extent of the large houses built by the early part of the century as a result of the wealth generated by coal and shipping. The church standing proud on the head is St. Augustine's - the landmark for mariners throughout the ages - although this is the Victorian update. [001]
