The Pier Penarth
The Pier Penarth
An ariel view of the Penarth Pier with the Penarth Head beyond. On the beach below the headland are the the eerie remains of the wartime observation towers which I show enlarged on the next page. This postcard was posted in London during March 1954 to a family in France. The lower image has been colourised. [001]

Penarth Head
Penarth Head

A view from beyond the pier of the beach. A Valentine's "Photo Brown" postcard. The card is unposted and there is no date but I would consider this one to have originated in the late 1940's or early 1950's. In the distance there is the smoke of the East Moors iron and steel works with Cardiff Docks close by. More period postcards from the Penarth Dock Collection. The lower image has been colourised. The Cambrian newspaper, published in the US for Welsh-Americans, interestingly published the following in 1915 : 'They make as sure as possible at Penarth that no visitor shall be hurt by falling stones from the cliffs or drowned by being caught by the sea at high tide. Notices are posted in iron letters in English, Welsh, and French warning visitors against these lurking dangers.' - The Cambrian - [555] - 1st January 1915.
