Volume Eight - Pre-Victorian to the present day - more aspects - To dredge the River Ely - 1860's
By September of the same year, 1862, Mr. Hardie was advertising his services within the Monmouthshire Merlin [167] newspaper and on a weekly basis through to November. I contacted the local Newport history society for further information about his wellbeing but there does not appear to be any relevant information available - your assistance would be most welcome in this respect. Back at the boardroom, the threats and legal preliminaries continued against Mr. Hardie. The National Archives have the following inconclusive letters but no mention is made of the progress of Mr. Mitchell and his new powerful dredger so we can only presume that excepting the normal mechanical problems the dredging of the River Ely was performed to the entire satisfaction of the Board of the Penarth Company. |
