William Short - 'Cardiff Docks with Penarth Head'

William Short - 'Cardiff Docks with Penarth Head'. William Short (1841 - 1919) was the grandson of a St. Ives master mariner named John Tregerthen Short. William resided in Cardiff from 1900. This oil on canvas painting features Penarth Head distant with the new St. Augustine's church dating the painting after 1865. Maybe the steam paddle steamer is the 'Kate' on one of it's regular trips between Penarth Dock and the Pier Head at Cardiff. [439]

William was also a writer having written 'Saronia - A Romance of Ancient Ephesus' published 1900 in London. Chapter One commences; 'The sun had risen in all its splendour, and was flooding the bay and mountains with silvery light.'
