Joseph Mallord William Turner- 'Cardiff Bridge and Castle' - 1795-96.
Joseph Mallord William Turner - (1775–1851) - 'Cardiff Bridge and Castle' - 1795-96. This was a subject in his 'Smaller South Wales' sketchbook. He returned to the same spot on his tour to Wales in 1798, and drew the scene from this viewpoint a second time in his 'Cyfarthfa' sketchbook.  The bridge over the River Taff is still under construction at this time with the castle and keep featured at the opposite bank of the river. The painting is held at the Tate having been accepted by the nation as part of the Turner bequest of 1856. [451]
