William Lionel Wyllie - (1851 - 1931) 'Barry Docks'
William Lionel Wyllie - (1851 - 1931) 'Barry Docks' - In the latter years of his career he was appointed marine artist to the Royal Yacht Squadron and the Royal Victoria Yacht Club. The London published 'Graphic' magazine also recognised his meticulous attention to detail and he was commissioned as an illustrator for the periodical. Other works included advertising posters for the White Star Line and the Orient Company. This scene, of number one dock at Barry, shows coal being loaded at a coal tip close by the engineering works of Hodges' Engineering and the Fownes Forge where I spent three years avoiding the foreman. Mr. Tosh Thomas, as an apprentice Fitter and Turner! [452]
