| William Lionel Wyllie - 'Entrance to Barry Dock - 1897' - Another of my favourite paintings, a print of which hangs in my home office since it reminds me of my days at Barry Dock in the 1960's. Mr. Wyllie has captured the start of a long voyage as the barque laden with steam coal leaves the quiet of the dock-waters, rounds Nell's Point and heads west out into the busy shipping lanes of the Bristol Channel for the Atlantic. I have just one criticism of this painting, however; you can't have a painting of Barry Docks without a few dozen, or so, shite-hawks around matey! [452] |
