Neapolitan School 20th century - 's.s. Northfield in the Bay of Naples' - c.1908 - A National Museum of Wales purchase being a gouache on paper. The image is taken from a postcard held in the Penarth Dock Collection which states:- 'The Northfield was one of the ships operated by the Cardiff based Field Line.' [001] [120]

'Northfield' of 2,099 gross register tons was built in 1901 at the yard of the Tyne Iron Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. and was owned by the Field Line (Evan Jones & Co.), during the years 1903 to 1915. She transferred ownership in 1915 to Keep S.S. & Lighterage Co. Ltd and Harry Keep of London. Sadly in March 1918, when she was 25 miles SW of Lundy, a German torpedo sunk her with the loss of the ship's master George Robert Steel, together with his crew of 14 men. She remains classified as a War Grave. [102] [214]
