Diana Mead - 'Loading coal' - Penarth Dock

Diana Mead - 'Loading coal' - Penarth Dock - Diana has captured in a pen and watercolour work a scene typical of the first decade or so of the twentieth century as a freighter takes on its cargo of steam coal at numbers 19 and 20 tips situated at the north quayside. [465]

I have a picture in my mind's eye of our lady artist sitting demurely at her easel, brush in hand, at the lockside connecting the basin with the main dock, no doubt imbibing ozone tinged with a little coal dust whilst a group of black-bright tippers and trimmers, mugs of tea in hand, respectfully peep over her shoulder and marvel as the painting evolves - I love it! Thank you Diana for your contribution to the Penarth Dock heritage story.
