Julie Carder - 'Ely Tidal Harbour and Penarth Dock' - a pen and ink drawing based upon an antique lithograph. Julie has captured the scene at the estuary harbour at slack water. Slack water is the time after low water is reached and there a pause before the tide turns and rushes in again. From the drawing-office of the Penarth Dock Engineering Company I once estimated that the water level rose at a rate of about one inch a minute during Spring tides - but not any more since that barrage was built.
