Diana Mead - 'Coal staithes on the river Ely' - Penarth

Diana Mead - 'Coal staithes on the Ely tidal harbour' - Penarth - A pen and ink drawing by Diana of the coal tips of the Ely tidal harbour opposite the Penarth Dock. They are tip number 3 (nearest), 2 and 3, being Memel oak wooden structures standing since the harbour was opened in 1859. They were updated in the late 1890's but remain very similar in appearance to the original. Diana has therefore faithfully captured these heritage tips as they were throughout their extended lifetime except that originally the entire bank of the river was 'pitched' i.e. covered with stone. The twice daily tides of over a century have washed away, or buried, the pitching in Ely-ooze.

Prints and cards are available for purchase direct from Artisans Corner, 112 Glebe Street, Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan CF64 1EB or go to Diana's website by clicking here Diana Mead - Fine Artist Diana also undertakes commissions.
