John G. Norriss - s.s. 'Great Britain' off Avonmouth - c.1845. The largest steamship of her day, she carried mail to New York and Australia. This postcard was one of a series of four featuring mail carriers built in Bristol from 1830. The link with Penarth is that she was bunkered with coal in the dock and departed on the 6th February 1886; it was a voyage which turned out to be her last commercial trip. [001]
