George Sidney Cooper (1935-1998) - A watercolour by a prolific artist of a Cardiff Corporation trolley bus No. 226 travelling to Gabalfa. The fleet, which at its peak consisted of 79 vehicles, ran from March 1942 until January 1970.

This is a service I used to catch to go to band practice at the Excelsior Rope Works Band on Western Avenue during the mid-1960's. It has just turned out of Duke Street where, if the driver was too enthusiastic at beating the traffic lights, the vehicle would roll to a standstill just outside the castle! The conductor then cursed and stepped off the vehicle to retract a long hooked pole from the rear of the vehicle and re-connect the arms and conductive shoes back on to the overhead wires!
