Claude Marks - Penarth.

Claude Marks - Penarth. - The painting was gifted to Amgueddfa Cymru in 1954 and is claimed by them to be a 19th century work. However, given that the art deco pavilion at the Penarth pier was built in 1929 and opened in 1930! The lower image has been enhanced and is probably nearer to the original in my opinion.

Claude Marks [1916-1991] was an artist, stage designer, writer and lecturer. A Londoner by birth, he was educated at Harrow and then Trinity College, Cambridge. His output was prolific and varied and his works have been exhibited in both New York and London. He died in New York which had been his home for a number of years.
