Volume Eight - Pre-Victorian to the present day - more aspects - Passat & Pamir at Penarth Dock - A Photo Album - 1948 - 1951
Martin, my son, bought a photo album for me. It was obviously a very personal record of two windjammers at the end of an era of commercial sailing vessels. Clearly a much valued possession of a knowledgeable person with a maritime heritage and it is in essence a time capsule since it contains about 80 photos of the 'Passat' and 'Pamir' at both Penarth and Avonmouth Docks. The snapshots, probably taken with a Kodak Brownie box camera or similar, date from 1950 and 1948 respectively. Formerly it was the property of the well known Bristol based artist Peter John Stuckey who was born in the 1920's. The album formed part of the Penarth Dock Collection when this chapter was prepared but in November 2017 I gifted it to the Glamorgan Archives, Cardiff as I felt it should belong in the public domain.
