A photograph of 'Pamir' entering the English Channel in December 1947 borrowed from a marvelous book 'The Last Time Around Cape Horn' by William Stark. A good read but not for the feint hearted! The photo shows the ship in full sail and making good way in a moderate sea. The copyright is asigned to the Wellington Museum. It provides a good idea of the scale of the foremast and as an engineer, I would be greatly interested in the forces acting on the mast and its restraints in all sea-states.
