Penarth Dock, South Wales - the heritage & legacy . . .
Volume Eight - Pre-Victorian to the present day - more aspects - The White Funnel Fleet - P & A Campbell Limited
A postcard from the Bristol Archives reference number 43207/9/10/33 within the Vaughan Collection which states that this is the 'Britannia' off Penarth in the early-mid 1900's. Based upon the images on the previous page, it is clear that she was a twin funneled vessel, hence, I am unsure if the archive is correct. Your assistance would be gratefully received to confirm or correct the identity of the vessel. [379]
Another photo of the fine paddle steamer 'Britannia' complete with a single funnel which has been sent anonymously in confirmation of the queried image above. Many thanks for your help. [000][002]
A fine photograph from the Penarth Dock Collection of P.S. 'Britannia' heading into harbour on an unknown date. Can anyone identify the location please? I was only six or seven years of age when she was withdrawn from service but I think I can remember viewing her leaving Penarth Pier one sunny summer afternoon whilst sucking on my ice-cold lolly!
