p.s. 'Glen Gower' with one of the 'Queens' landing passengers astern of her. I think this is at Newport on the River Usk but I am not sure of this statement ; corrections are very welcome! A photograph from the Penarth Dock Collection. [000] [001]

p.s. 'Glen Gower' at The Pier, Porthcawl during the late 1930's. A Valentine's postcard posted from Porthcawl during August 1939. The pier with its lighthouse is normally associated with photographs of massive waves breaking over it during high tides and when a good westerly blows in off the Atlantic! A heritage postcard held within the Penarth Dock Collection. [001]

p.s. 'Glen Gower' was laid up at the end of the 1957 season at Penarth Dock. In the next two years she was offered for sale but sadly only one offer was accepted, that of her shipbreakers in Antwerp. The photos above capture the moment the tug 'Tallisman' arrives from Hull to tow her on her final journey.

I remember seeing her only a few days earlier in April 1960 but not realising that it was to be the last time. Thank you to Mr Chris Collard for his fine book 'A White Funnel Album' and for reminding me of the event which as a ten year old lad I was obvious too. [303]
