Penarth Dock, South Wales - the heritage & legacy . . .
Volume Eight - Pre-Victorian to the present day - more aspects - The White Funnel Fleet - P & A Campbell Limited
Two photographs of the lovely paddle steamer 'Brighton Queen' from Robert Wall's fine book on the subject of 'Bristol Channel Pleasure Steamers' published in 1973. [324]
As built by the Clydebank Engineering and Shipbuilding Company in 1897 with open alleyways and a flying bridge. [324]
As rebuilt by P. & A. Campbell. The open alleyways are enclosed. Interestingly, the two lifeboats forward were added following the loss of the 'Titanic'. Note the remodeling and inclusion of radial openings in the paddle boxes. She looks 'spotless' just as Mr. Hambleton describes. [324]
Another postcard view, plus colourised version, of s.s. 'Brighton Queen' sent to me by an admirer of the website. I assume that the copyright of W. A. Pelly has expired after this time but if you know otherwise please let me know. [000][002]
