He went on to list others ending with William Cory & Sons. The Cory brothers, in his opinion, were good to Penarth Dock and had a large fleet of ships which were regulars at Penarth. The ships had a black funnel with a white band and black diamond. The ships ranged in size from the 'Corness' with a capacity of about 2,300 tons to the 'Corland' which carried about 6,500 tons of coal. Harry recalls his first job at the dock. His daily duties included collecting the shipping lists and to go around the dock presumably to verify and update the list. He searched his memory for the names of some of the old ships and gave the following example of how the Daily Ship List would have read:

A common argument, which even included members of his own family, was the concept that 'You could walk from one side of the dock to the other' upon moored ships. Harry had looked at many old photographs of the dock and the statement was incorrect, a fallacy, in his view.
