2e) Walter Raymond Mules

My grandmother had an older brother called Walter Raymond Mules (b. 1897). He took on the nickname ‘Buzz’ from his father, William Alfred Mules. He first lived at 8 Maughan Terrace. My great uncle was a navy man, and joined aged just 14, in September 1911.

Walter’s Service Card, held at the National Archive, Kew, London. His Service Number M.B.107 shows that he was attached to the Motor Boat Reserve.

Out of the navy, Walter Raymond Mules worked in the docks as a ‘fish lumper’ for J. J. Neale and West, trawler owners. A lumper unloads fish and takes them to a storage area. Walter died in 1973.
