Penarth Dock, South Wales - the heritage & legacy . . .
Volume Eight - Pre-Victorian to the present day - more aspects - Cardiff, Penarth and Environs - [vintage photo and postcard album] . . .
A Photochrom postcard of 'Penarth, Promenade Gardens' postmarked April 1942. It has a Canadian 2 cent postage stamp and is addressed to Mrs. Pitman at R.R.#3, North Hatty, P.2. - wherever that may be? Can anyone shed any light on this address/location please? [001]
Another Photochrom postcard view of the 'Penarth - The Italian Gardens & Pier'. This is an unposted card from the Penarth Dock Collection and dates from a similar period to that above. [001]
Italian Gardens, Penarth - Those lovely semi-circular steps up to the higher level with its benches in the shade so that you can eat your Thayer's ice cream cone on a warm day without it dripping down your legs! The lower version has been colourised. The postcard by W.H.S.& S. Ltd. (W. H. Smith) was posted from Penarth to Hackney, London during August 1937 and is held within the Penarth Dock Collection. Promenade Gardens, Penarth - A lovely 'Collo Colour' postcard published by Valentine & Sons, Ltd., Dundee and London, of the Italianate Gardens on a bright, summer day. 'Collo Colour' was a printing method that used light-sensitive jelly to create smooth, detailed images, which became popular during the 1950's. Another heritage record held within the Penarth Dock Collection. [001]
