Alexandra Park from the Top Path, Penarth

Alexandra Park from the Top Path, Penarth - a lovely postcard view over the rear of the Esplanade Hotel and the Severn Sea beyond. It is a fine day but the coal export business continues for the mariners, tippers, hobblers, shunters and ordinary men and women. In the park are the two cannon orientated toward the sea. These were apparently seized from the Russians during the Crimean War of 1853 to 1856. They retained their prominent position until 1937 when the town council sold them for scrap. [001]

Prince of Wales Feathers, Alexandra Park, Penarth
The Prince of Wales Feathers, Alexandra Park, Penarth - a Valentine's Series card posted from Penarth during June 1923 to a North Shields address. The 'Feathers' date from the 1920's era arranged in a fleur-de-lis pattern on beds within a grassed area. I wonder who the young lad is sitting alone on one of the benches. The enlargement has been colourised. [001]

The Lodge, Alexandra Park, Penarth
The Lodge, Alexandra Park, Penarth
The Lodge, Alexandra Park, Penarth from a 'Souvenir of Penarth - Ten Photographic Views' available from G. F. Meredith of Bon Marchè, Penarth, being a Valentine's Series publication. This lodge was situated nearby the foot of Beach Road hill and built to house the Park Superintendent. The lower image has been colourised. [001]
